Lucy and James’ wedding at Sandon Hall near Stone was a beautiful Staffordshire wedding day filled with all the things we love about photographing weddings - genuine emotion, incredible surroundings, plenty of laughter and those unexpected moments that make a wedding completely unique to the couple.
Lucy got ready at Sandon Hall in the morning, making the most of the beautiful bridal preparation rooms. One of the lovely things about getting ready at Sandon Hall is having the space to use different rooms throughout the morning. Lucy had one room where her hair and make-up took place, giving everyone plenty of room to get ready and enjoy the morning together, while another room remained beautifully tidy for the all-important bridal portraits and dress photographs.
There were some particularly lovely moments during the bridal preparations, including Lucy’s dress reveal with her bridesmaids and another emotional reveal with her dad. These are exactly the kinds of moments we love to capture naturally - without interrupting what is happening or turning the morning into a series of staged photographs.
The morning weather certainly kept everyone on their toes. Heavy rain arrived just as the bridal party were making their way towards the church, with bridesmaids arriving under umbrellas. But, as is so often the case with British weddings, the weather had other plans for the rest of the day. By the time Lucy and James had finished their ceremony, the rain had cleared and they were treated to glorious conditions for their reception and photographs.
After the ceremony, we photographed Lucy and James around the church grounds before capturing their confetti exit as they headed towards their reception at Sandon Hall. With the weather now on their side, we were able to make the most of the beautiful gardens and grounds surrounding this incredible wedding venue.
Back at Sandon Hall, guests gathered for drinks and celebrations before heading into the wedding reception. One of our favourite entrances of the day saw Lucy and James arrive to their guests waving napkins in the air as they were welcomed into the room via the spectacular staircase.
Later in the day came one of the most personal touches of the wedding - Lucy’s horse arrived after the meal, giving her and James the opportunity to capture some incredibly special photographs together. It was such a brilliant reflection of Lucy and made the day feel even more personal.
As the evening celebrations began, Lucy changed into a gorgeous party dress and joined everyone on the dance floor. From a rainy start to glorious sunshine, emotional moments, a horse, confetti and a packed dance floor, Lucy and James’ Sandon Hall wedding was everything a wedding should be - personal, relaxed and completely theirs.
